Frederick B. Markle, 78, of Taneytown, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 11, 2012, at Genesis Healthcare at Gettysburg Center.
Born Feb 21, 1934, he was the son of the late Clarence and Beatrice Fleming Markle. He was the husband of Barbara Jean Wren Markle, his wife of 50 years, who died June 24, 2010.
He served in the Army and was a paratrooper and marksman. He was a maintenance mechanic and retired from Littlestown Foundry after 25 years of service. He later returned to work at Hanover Shoe.
He was a member of Piney Creek Presbyterian Church in Taneytown, Harney Lions Club, and Antique Car Club of America.
Surviving are daughters Bonnie Stair and husband Roger, of Taneytown, Renee Bowers and companion Craig Paules, of East Berlin, Pa., and Sharon Peppers of Texas; sons Kenneth Crouse and wife Sheree, and Brian Markle and wife Annie, all of Littlestown, Pa., and Donald Markle and wife Gabrielle, of Taneytown; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brothers Timothy Markle, of Gettysburg, Pa., Daniel Markle, of Denver, Pa., and Larry Markle, of Harney; a sister, Jackie Hartland, of Silver Run; and father-in-law William Wren, of Port Orchard, Wash.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Markle; a son, David Markle; grandsons Roger Stair Jr. and Aaron Bowers; a granddaughter, Emily Ricketts; great-grandsons Christian Utz and Mason Blymire; sisters Nancy Flickinger and Toni Coshun; and a brother, Ronald Markle.
Viewing will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Little's Funeral Home, 34 Maple Ave., Littlestown.
A memorial service will be held at noon Friday at his church, 4472 Harney Road, Taneytown, with the Rev. H. Paul Matthews officiating. Private inurnment in the church cemetery.

Fred was part of my childhood at Starners Dam and I have many happy memories of him and all the Markle family. Fred is now in God's hands and at peace. My sympathies to the family and especially to my friend and dancing partner, Jackie.
