Frederick Lane Staley, age 81, of Union Bridge, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at his home surrounded by loved ones. Born May 16, 1936 in Walkersville, he was the son of the late Hiram Joshua and Dorothy Hamilton Staley. He was the husband of Mary Ellen Snyder Staley, his wife of 61 years. Fred was a 1954 graduate of Elmer Wolfe High School. He was employed in the electrical department at Lehigh Portland Cement Co. of Union Bridge from 1966-1999. He enjoyed his grandchildren, gardening, his yard and flower beds and attending flea markets. He was a general collector and avidly collected Coca Cola memorabilia. In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, Rick Staley and wife Colleen of Glenville, PA; 3 grandchildren, Ian Staley, Evan Staley and wife Lucy and Reghan Staley and fiancé Cody Taylor; step grandson, Ryan Calp and wife Jenny; 2 great grandsons, Emery and Wesley Staley; sister-in-law, Rose Staley and brother-in-law, Gary Urick. He was predeceased by twin brother, Edward L. Staley and sister, Jeannette Urick. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 19, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge, with Mark Eyler, lay speaker at Thurmont United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Haugh's Cemetery, Ladiesburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, December 18. Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Bridge Volunteer Fire Co., P.O.
