Ms. Gale Diane Bixler, 64, of New Windsor, died Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Sinai Hospital, Baltimore, after a brief illness. Born April 7, 1950 in Hanover, PA, she was the daughter of the late Robert Kroh Bixler and Betty Boose Bixler. She had been a teacher for the Carroll County public schools for 30 years, teaching mathematics and serving as Department Chair at Westminster High School until retiring in June 2002. She was valedictorian of her 1968 class at Francis Scott Key High School. Graduating from Western Maryland College in 1972, she continued her professional studies acquiring a master's degree in education. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, served as secretary for the Carroll County Retired School Personnel Association and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma - International Society for Women Educators. She had been a lifelong member of Jerusalem Lutheran Church where she served as treasurer of the E.L.C.W. She was an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, New Windsor, where she sang in the choir, served on the Administrative Council, was finance secretary for the church and treasurer of the United Methodist Women. She participated in the Edlea Jones Bible Study and also served on the board of the Strawbridge Shrine. Gale volunteered at the Carroll County Library Link Service where she visited West End Place. She was an avid reader and a lifelong learner. She enjoyed gardening, music and entertaining her friends and family. She delighted in traveling to different states and countries and was inspired by nature and the wonder of God's work. She loved her miniature Schnauzers, Escher and Jasper. Surviving are an uncle, Irvin E. "Bud" Boose of Upperco; an aunt, Audrey Leone of Baltimore; numerous cousins and devoted friend, Ronda Robinson of Westminster. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 8, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 200 Main St., New Windsor, with Rev. Dr. Colin Phillips, church pastor, officiating. Friends may call at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor, 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, March 7. A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Bixler Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Organ Fund of St. Paul United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 250, New Windsor, MD 21776 or to The Shepherd's Staff, P.O. Box 127, Westminster, MD 21157.
