Galen Reese "Duke" Forney, 85, of Union Bridge, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at Carroll Lutheran Village Health Care Center in Westminster, after an extended illness.

Born Oct. 15, 1927, in Johnsville, he was the son of the late Claude Elmer Forney and Edith Reese Forney. He was the husband of Pauline Koons Forney, his wife of 65 1/2 years.

He served in the Army during the U.S. occupation of Germany. He was formerly employed at Lehigh Portland Cement Co. as a truck driver for 38 years, retiring in 1990.

He was a member of Bark Hill Bible Church, and VFW Post 8806, of Union Bridge. He enjoyed trips to Myrtle Beach, S.C., yard work and being with his family.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters Linda Johnson and husband Terry, and Sally A. Forney, all of Westminster; sons D. Michael Forney and wife Sandy, of New Windsor, and Jerry W. Forney and wife Joyce, of Union Bridge; grandchildren Terry Johnson Jr., and Laurie, Chastity, Tracey and Chelsea Forney; brothers Carroll E. Forney and Larry W. Forney, both of Thurmont; and a sister, Nancy Bare, of Florida.

He was predeceased by brothers Kenneth H., D. Lee, Richard and Sam Forney; and a sister, Betty Koontz.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with his pastor, the Rev. Milt Lambertson, and former pastor, the Rev. Dr. Tom Darner, officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Union Bridge.
