Gene Fisher, 79, of Finksburg, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House.

Born July 7, 1933, in Glasford, Ill., he was the son of the late Carl R. and Jenny Wood Fisher. He was the husband of Eva M. Wilson Fisher, his wife of 59 years.

He was a 1951 graduate of Spoon River Valley High School. After graduating he worked for the Navy Department from 1951 until 1958, then worked on various farms from 1958 until 1963, and was a truck driver from 1963 until his retirement from KJ Transportation in 1998.

After retirement, he drove a school bus for the Carroll County School System for 10 years. He was a member and past president of the former Sykesville Moose Lodge and member of the Westminster Moose Lodge No. 1381, was a volunteer for the Carroll County 4-H for 39 years and a leader for the older youth.

He was also a former member of the Gamber volunteer fire company. He enjoyed bowling, hot air balloon rides, traveling, working in the flower garden, feeding the birds, helping with pancake breakfasts, collecting Garfield and spending time with family and friends.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children Lonnie Fisher and wife Beverly, of Gardeners, Pa., Carla Uhler and companion Jeff Kline, of Reisterstown, Dennis Fisher and wife Teresa, and Rita Sandel and husband Jim, all of Taneytown, and Louie Fisher and wife Mary, of Westminster; six grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and friends Herb and Barb Bollinger, Sandy and Kenny Horton, and Joan Eline.

He was predeceased by siblings Harold C., Kenneth D., and Paul R. Fisher.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Carroll Hospice Chaplain, the Rev. David Bare officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
