Geneva Christina "Chris" Flater Hugg, 58, of Westminster, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, in her sleep following a two-year battle with uterine cancer.

Born June 28, 1955, in Hanover, Pa., she was daughter of the late John Arnold Flater and Geneva Gladys Waltz Flater. She was the wife of Lawrence Irwin Hugg, her husband of 32 years.

She was a 1973 graduate of Westminster High School and the vo-tech textile fabrication program. In her early years she worked on the George and Mildred Harris farm in Westminster. She worked for 38 years at Random House in Westminster in various job titles.

She enjoyed gardening, growing and arranging flowers, working in her yard, bird and butterfly watching and trips to Vermont. She also enjoyed square dancing with the Gingham Squares. She was a caregiver to her brother James for many years until her illness prevented her in continuing. She enjoyed time with her cat, Nicodemus.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are daughter Amanda Hugg and husband Sourabh Verma, of Virginia Beach, Va.; son Matthew Hugg and companion Reanna Lohrmann, of Westminster; a grandson, Devan Patrick Verma; brothers John Flater, of Baltimore, and James Flater, of Randallstown; a sister, Libby Ness, of Hebron; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Frances Waltz.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until the time of a memorial service, 8 p.m. Thursday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster. Private interment will be held at a later date in Deer Park Methodist Cemetery.
