Genevieve (Jean) Madeline Graham was born in Thessalonica, Greece on 27 April 1929 to Athena and Anthony Ellul, a British citizen. In 1941 when the Germans invaded Greece she and her family were evacuated because her father worked for the British Embassy. They were first taken to Crete where they camped under olive trees and then they were taken to Egypt. When Rommel threatened Egypt they were taken to India. They stayed there until after the war ended. In 1947 they were moved to Eritrea, a small country in East Africa under British military occupation. In May 1948 she met Roger Graham, a US Navy chief petty officer, who she married on 1 October 1948 . In accordance with British rules they had to be married in a civil ceremony by the British military governor. Later that day they were married by an Orthodox Presbyterian missionary. In 1950 they returned to the United States and as a Navy wife served 12 tours while raising three sons. After the navy she lived in Purcellville, VA for 36 years. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Athena & Anthony Ellul; two sisters, Mary Ellul & Jean Colmer; three brothers, Joseph, Raoul, & George Ellul. She is survived by her brother Richard Ellul , her husband, three sons, one granddaughter, four grandsons, and one great granddaughter. At the age of 85 she died on 16 April 2015. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Bethany United Methodist Church on Sunday, April 19, 2015 with reception to follow. Burial will be held on Monday, April 20, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at St. James United Methodist Church Cemetery, 2900 Martson Road, New Windsor, MD.
