Genevieve May Eckard, 82, of Taneytown, died Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House, in Westminster, following a brief illness.

Born Jan. 31, 1930, in Bachmans Valley, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Della M. Wentz Thomas. She was the wife of Donald Revelle Eckard, who died in 2006.

She worked at Sylvia Garments for 23 years, and at Cambridge Rubber and Westminster Knit. She was a seamstress.

She was an Elvis fan, enjoyed collecting elephants and watching NASCAR.

Surviving are sons Richard Eckard and wife Debbie, and Gary Eckard and wife Carolyn, all of Taneytown; daughters Donna May Shorb, of Taneytown, and Linda Wetzel and fiance Daniel Albaugh, of Union Bridge; a sister, Helen Wolf, of Silver Run; 15 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and four nephews.

She was predeceased by sons-in-law David Cozort, Mike Shorb and Dave Wetzel; a sister, Julia Dougherty; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Deacon Charles E. Barnhart Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Grace United Church of Christ Cemetery, in Taneytown.
