George Charles Fritz, 96, of New Windsor, died Sunday, June 21, 2015 at his home. Born April 8, 1919 on his family farm near New Windsor, he was the son of the late Leslie Carroll and Sarah Jeanette Hoover Fritz. He was the husband of the late Dorothy Virginia Grim Fritz, who predeceased him in 1997. Mr. Fritz attended the Medford School and graduated from New Windsor High School in 1936. He was a lifelong dairy farmer in Wakefield Valley, working well into his 80s. He was a member of the Carroll County Farm Bureau, New Windsor Progressive Farmers, and Carroll County and National Holstein Association. He served on the board of directors with Southern States of Taneytown, Westminster, and Carroll Petroleum. He attended Edgewood Church of the Brethren. He enjoyed traveling with his good friend, Rauland Roop. Surviving are daughter, Bernice Ecker and husband, Jim of Taneytown; sons, James L. Fritz of Westminster and Daniel D. Fritz of New Windsor; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and sister, Ruth Myers of Westminster. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sharon E. Fritz in 1963; daughters-in-law, Karen Fritz in 1984, Mary Fritz in 1999, and Sharon Fritz in 2015; and sister, Margaret Buchanan. The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor on Tuesday, June 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Paul N. Leatherman Jr., his pastor, will officiate. Private interment will be in Winters Cemetery, New Windsor.
