George Edward Harbin, 64, of Woodbine, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at Howard County General Hospital in Columbia.

Born Jan. 31, 1949, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Rufus and Marian "Betty" Staubitz Harbin. He was the husband of Shirley Marie Mathis Harbin, his wife of 31 years.

He was retired from the Howard County Highway Department after 43 1/2 years of service. He enjoyed collecting Farmall tractors and raising beef cattle.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons and daughter-in-law Matthew E. and Brandy M. Harbin, and Daniel Lee Harbin, all of Woodbine; brothers and sisters-in-law Rufus Harbin, Frank and Linda Harbin, Glen and Barbara Harbin, Richard Harbin and Linda C. Harbin; and grandchildren Hailey Nicole and Brady Lee Harbin.

He was predeceased by a brother, John M. Harbin; and a sister, Joan McCauley.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Marriottsville.
