George Ernest Phillips, 86, formerly of Reisterstown, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at Morningside Assisted Living in Newport News, Va.

Born May 4, 1926, in West Virginia, he was the son of the late Arden Phillips and Flo Etta Smith Phillips. He was the husband of Agnes Geraldine "Jerri" Phillips, his wife of 62 years, who died in 2009.

He served honorably with the Navy in World War II. He was retired from Baltimore County Schools after 30 years as a school teacher and administrator. He worked as a coal miner, a local union president for three years, worked in real estate from 1974 to 2008, and had worked at Bethlehem Steel.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Sandra "Sandi" and Carl Reams, of Newport News; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Phillips, of Finksburg; grandchildren Heather Geiman and husband John, Sarah Phillips, and Kristen Freter and husband Christopher; and great-grandchildren Carter, Ryan and Tegan.

He was predeceased by a son, Dr. Phillip Phillips; two brothers; and two sisters.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Glyndon United Methodist Church, 4713 Butler Road, Glyndon, with the Rev. Jeannie Marsh officiating. Interment will be in Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery.
