George E. Yockey

George Edward Yockey, 89, of Westminster, died Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at home.

Born April 14, 1924, in Zelienople, Pa., he was the son of the late Harry C. and Mary Davy Yockey. He was the husband of Wyllian King Yockey, whom he married in 1948.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He received a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University. He had been an engineer for PPG Industries Inc., retiring Feb. 1, 1984. 

He was a member of the Crestline, Ohio Lions Club, volunteered for Carroll County Food Sunday, was a long-time member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Westminster, where he served as treasurer and trustee. He enjoyed traveling and camping.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons and daughters-in-law Alan R. and Jayne Yockey of Paoli, Pa., Edwin K. and Riki Yockey, of Fletcher, N.C., and  Steven K. Yockey, of Hilliard, Ohio; a daughter, Julia L. Yockey, of Lower Burrell, Pa.; a brother, Robert H. Yockey, of Turlock, Calif.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, John D. Yockey.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. June 8 at First Presbyterian Church of Westminster, 65 Washington Road, Westminster, with the the Rev. Walt Peters officiating. Interment was held at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Missions Program at First Presbyterian Church of Westminster, 65 Washington Road, Westminster, MD 21157.
