George F. Grogan, 81, of Westminster, passed away on January 13, 2018. He was born June 2, 1936 in Pittstown, PA, to Paul B. and Grace Grogan. After high school, he attended SUNY Delhi receiving an Associate of Applied Science degree. In 1958 he enlisted in the United States Navy as a Mechanic and was honorably discharged August, 1962. He was married to Brenda Pipher Grogan. In 1960, the family moved to Cortland, NY, where he owned Consolidated Construction. In 1966, he continued his education at SUNY Oswego where he received a BS degree in Construction Engineering. In 1970, the family moved to Hampstead, MD. He began his teaching career at Franklin High where he taught woodshop. During the summers, he and his sons built homes including the family home and a solar home in Hampstead. In 1979, he worked for the state of Maryland Department of Energy. In the early 80's, he was the Chief of Building Permits and Inspection in Carroll County. He was active in the American Legion Carroll Post 31 and enjoyed serving as Sergeant-at-Arms. His parents, wife Brenda, sisters Margaret McQueen, Ruth Waters, and brothers Robert and Paul preceded him in death. He is survived by his sons, Christopher J. Grogan, Timothy D. and wife Linda Grogan, daughter Lucretia A. and husband Wade Cook. Grandchildren Katey, Meghan, Emily, and Michael Grogan, Bentley and wife Callan Cook, and Wesley F. Cook. A heartfelt thank you to his very special and caring friend, our angel on earth, Florence Williams. And a host of nieces and nephews who were all very special and dear to him. A memorial service will be held in his honor at 11 am on Friday, January 26, 2018, at St. John Catholic Church, the Rev. Christopher Deleon presiding.
