George Norman Hunter III, 81, of Centerville, Ohio, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, after a brief illness. Born Aug. 26, 1930, in Westminster, he was the son of the late George Norman Hunter Jr. and Mary Malcolm Hunter. He was the husband of Vera Katherine Hunter, his wife of 55 years, whom he met and married in 1956. He attended the University of Maryland where he obtained his degree in business. A veteran of the Air Force, he served in the Korean War working on the development of radar systems. He worked for Bendix Corporation for 25 years, his proudest achievement being the implementation of the Apollo launch program at the Kennedy Space Center. He had many passions including sports, fishing, hunting, music, gardening and cooking. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters Leslie Waizmann and husband Joe, Nancy Williams and husband Scott, Polly Kessel and husband Dan, and Amanda Ammer and husband Bryan; grandchildren Jessica and Robert Waizmann, Olivia and Anna Williams, and Reid and Neil Ammer; a brother, Thomas Malcolm Hunter and wife Connie; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19 at VFW Post 9927, 3316 Wilmington Pike, Kettering, Ohio.
