George Paul Popp, age 80 of Westminster, died Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster. Born May 1, 1936 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late George Paul Popp Sr. and Catherine M. Sofsky Popp. He was the stepson of the late Regina M. Schmitt Popp. George served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1958. After leaving the military he began work with Otis Elevator where he worked until 1972 when he became business manager for I.U.E.C. Local of Baltimore. In 1983 he became Regional Director of the International Union of Elevator Constructors. He remained a Regional Director until his retirement in 2001. George enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, and watching westerns. Most important he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of Crosswind Church in Westminster. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years Betty Popp, two daughters Regina Belsinger and her husband Craig of Sykesville, and Jennifer Woerner and her husband Adam of Westminster, four grandchildren Michael Wehn of New Windsor, Jessica Wehn of Sykesville, and Hailey and Kaitlin Woerner of Westminster, three great grandchildren, a sister Barbara Hasselbarth of Edgewood, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Charles, and by his brother Eugene Andrew Popp. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville with Michael Livingston officiating. Interment in Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10am until the time of services.
