George W. Clingan, 84, formerly of Harney, died early Friday morning, Aug. 31, 2012, at Transitions Healthcare of Gettysburg.

Born Aug. 19, 1928, in Carroll County, he was the son of the late Walter and Delta Vivian Ridinger Clingan. He was the husband of Charlotte L. Rinehart Clingan, who died June 11, 2008.

He was employed with Carroll Shoe and Windsor Shoe, both of Littlestown and was retired from Littlestown Hardware & Foundry in 1992.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Harney, was a charter and life member of both Harney fire company, and Adams and Carroll County Fire Police, and was past chaplain of Harney fire company and the fire police. He was a member of Gettysburg Moose.

Surviving are son Steven W. Clingan and wife Amy, of Bonneauville, Pa.; a daughter, Jane L. Clingan, of Westminster; grandchildren Steven Clingan Jr. and Jillian Brady; step-grandchildren Melissa and Mark Topper; a great-grandson, Dante Bartram; and sisters Irene Brent, of Gettysburg, Pa., and Judy Hayes, of Florida.

He was predeceased by a brother, Ricky W. Clingan.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and from 9 a.m. until the time of service, 10 a.m. Tuesday, at Little's Funeral Home, 34 Maple Ave., Littlestown, Pa., with his pastor, the Rev. Matthew A. Day officiating. Interment is in Mountain View Cemetery in Harney.
