Gertrude "Loretta" Harris, 88, of Westminster, died Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Born December 31, 1925, in Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Jennie Gertrude Hughes and Melvin Earl Rill. She was the wife of the late John Francis Harris, her husband of 52 years. Before retiring, she worked as the food service manager for the Carroll County Board of Education. She graduated from Hampstead High School. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Women's Society and Christian Ladies Fellowship. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Kathleen D. and Steve Crum of Weldon Spring, MO, sons Larry F. Harris of Youngstown, Ohio, and Wilson L. Harris and wife Patricia of Hampstead, and a sister Nona E. Utz of Jackson, TN. Also survived by 5 grandchildren; Angela Hogan and husband John, Bridget Tozer and husband Brian, Alison Cole and husband Paul, Matthew Crum, and Jessica Etzel and husband John and 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by sisters Ethel Ray Willet and Flora Jean Wilhelm and brothers Charles Melvin Rill, Chester Wilson Rill, Vernon L. Rill, and E. Lynn Rill. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3239 Carrollton Rd., Hampstead, MD 21074, with her pastor, Rev. Amy Lewis-Rill, officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Contributions may be offered to Wesley United Methodist Church, 3239 Carrollton Rd., Hampstead, MD 21074.
