Gilbert Franklin Barnes, 73, of Westminster, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House.

Born March 2, 1939, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Eva Maud Barnes and Joshua Levering Barnes. He was the husband of Joyce Rose Barnes, of Westminster.

Before retiring, he worked as a bowling center master mechanic at the Thunderhead Bowling Center in Taneytown and Westminster. He was a member of the Providence Cemetery Board and enjoyed woodworking, western movies, country music and steam engine shows.

Surviving in addition to his wife are sons and daughters-in-law Rick and Patti Barnes, of Westminster, Jeffrey Barnes and companion Mindy, of Glen Rock, Pa., Timothy and Michele Barnes, of Westminster, and Patrick Barnes, of Towson; step-daughters Tammy L. Sweet and fiance Vernon Gill, of Finksburg, Bonnie L. Marion and husband Ken, of North Carolina, and Hattie Benet and husband Lee, of Tennessee; and former wife Betty C. Barnes, of Reisterstown. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by former wife Wanda Lee Barnes; sons Gil Barnes Jr. and Russell Barnes; a step-daughter, Patricia D. Seal; brothers Ira E., J. Leonard, Willard N. and Jabez "Jay" N. Barnes; and sisters Daisy P. "Polly" Eyler and Eva Bollinger.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Richard Shamer officiating. Interment will follow in Providence Cemetery.
