Glenn E. Gonder, 96, of Gettysburg, PA died Monday morning, August 28, 2017 at Transitions Healthcare, Gettysburg, PA. Born May 14, 1921 in Waynesboro, PA he was the son of the late John F. and Nellie C. (Helm) Gonder. He was preceded in death by his first wife Betty Lou Virginia (Starner) Gonder, as well as his second wife, Charlotte Keefer-Gonder. Glenn was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. He retired from the W.H. Davis Company in Westminster, MD where he worked as an auto mechanic for a number of years. He was life member of the American Legion in Taneytown, MD. He enjoyed carpentry, making small furniture, building homes with his son, and hunting. Mr. Gonder is survived by his two children, Glenn E. Gonder, II and his wife Bonnie, of Fairfield, PA, Debra E. Simon, and her husband Daniel, of Gettysburg, PA, his two grandsons, Michael S. Gonder and his wife Nikki, Jeffrey D. Simon and his wife Nichole, and two great grandchildren, Joshua Gonder, Brook Gonder, and six step-children. He was preceded in death by four siblings, Betty Jane, Baker, Catherine Valenta, Helen Owings, and John Gonder. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 2, 2017 at the Emmanuel Baust United Church of Christ, 2950 Old Taneytown Rd., Westminster, MD with Rev Jeffry Dull officiating. Burial will be in the Baust Church Cemetery, following the services. The Monahan Funeral Home, Gettysburg is in charge of the arrangements and online condolences may be made at The family suggests memorial contributions in lieu of flowers to be made to the Taneytown American Legion, 9 Broad St., Taneytown, MD 21787.
