Gordon F. Wickes Jr., 67, of Finksburg, died early Thursday morning, May 8, 2014, at home.

Born June 30, 1946, in Catonsville, he was the son of the late Gordon F. Wickes Sr. and Hilda Stahl Wickes. He was the husband of Margaret Smith Wickes, his wife of 42 years.

He was a graduate of LeMalay Arts School and president of Cross Countries Travel in Westminster. He was a member of Westminster Church of the Brethren and the Carroll County Arts Council and was a contributing artist for Off-Track Art.

He was a world traveler, traveling more than 15 times to Ireland. He enjoyed dancing, photography and spending time with his family and grandson, Ethan. He also enjoyed talking to everyone he met.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are son and wife Ian R. and Marina Wickes, of Taneytown; a daughter, Leah T. Wickes, of Finksburg; brothers Wesley Wickes and wife Judi, of Dagsboro, Delaware, and Richard Wickes, of Lewes, Delaware; and a grandson, Ethan V. Wickes.

He was predeceased by a sister, Annette Noel Snyder.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Herb Ruby officiating. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
