Gordon "Pete" Richard Olson, 94, of Finksburg, passed away at his home on April 3, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 8 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Olson. Pete was born on August 18, 1923 in Junius, South Dakota, to the late Clifford and Thora (Sandum) Olson. He graduated from Junius High School. Pete was Assistant Postmaster for the U.S. Senate in Washington D.C. for 29 years. He also worked for Karl Mundt, U.S. Senator for South Dakota. Pete worked for his good friend Emerson Bair at National Building Leasing for a number of years. Pete was predeceased by his first wife Sarah, infant son Reid Arthur Olson, and brother Morton Olson. In addition to his wife, Pete is survived by his children; John E. (Linda) Olson of Mercersburg, PA, Robert W. Olson of Shepherdstown, WV and Patricia Switzer of Hanover, PA. He is also survived by his step-son Carlton H. "Buzzy" (Lori) Shamer, Jr. and Donna Shamer, all of Finksburg. Pete also leaves his 4 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, 3 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren. Pete was a member of the Greater Carroll Lions Club, former member of the Westminster Lions Club and a member of the Westminster Elks Lodge 2277. He was an honorary associate member of VFW Post 467. Pete attended Grace Lutheran Church in Westminster. Pete will always be remembered for his love of telling jokes His family will welcome visitors on Sunday, April 8, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, April 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in his memory be made to Greater Carroll Lions Club, P.O. Box 61, Westminster, MD 21158.
