Grace Margaret "Cuppy" Vance (nee Fletcher), born in Waltham, Quebec on May 21, 1924, died on July 8, 2017 in Westminster, Maryland. Grace earned her RN from the Ottawa Civic Hospital and then became the first female head of a blood bank in North America. She met her husband, Dr. Hugh Gordon Vance, while working as a nurse. After marrying, the Vances moved from Montreal to Baltimore, Maryland, in 1959. They planned to stay for one year, but found the area so attractive that they decided to stay permanently, although neither gave up their Canadian citizenship. Grace enjoyed spending time with her son, Andrew, daughter-in-law, Sandy, and grandchildren, Jared and Emily. A Memorial Service will be held at Carroll Lutheran Village's Krug Chapel in Westminster, Maryland on August 6, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at a later date in Ontario, Canada. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association at https://billygraham.org/checkout/give-honor-memorial.php.
