Grover Ziglar Conrad, age 91, of New Windsor, died Thursday, November 16, 2017 at his home. Born August 28, 1926 in North Carolina, he was the son of the late J.R. and Pearl Transeau Conrad. He was the husband of Peggy Sue Fritz Conrad, his wife of 52 years. Grover began his working career as a dairy farmer in North Carolina, moved to Montgomery County and then to Carroll County in the early 50's. He worked for Southern States Petroleum of Westminster and then as a driver with Mitchell Transport terminals in Union Bridge and Baltimore. After retirement he drove for Cox Ford/Crouse Ford, delivering parts. He was a member of St. John's (Leisters) Lutheran Church. Known as a workaholic, he enjoyed his job, mowing his lawn, gardening, traveling with his wife, dancing and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his wife he is survived by children, G. "Ziggie" Conrad Jr. and wife Jana of Granbury, TX, Anna Marie Eberhart and husband Joe of Reisterstown, Caroline L. Baxley and husband Bob of Westminster, and Tammy S. Conrad and Karen L. Monroe and husband Glenn, all of New Windsor; 18 grandchildren, Julie, Chris, Angie, Tyler, James, Carrie, Jesse, Laura, John, Becky, Jennifer, Jered, Pam, Eric, Kayla, Brady, Nicholas and Morgan; 23 great grandchildren and sister and brothers, Lawrence Conrad of FL, Inez Lagoss and husband Van of VA, Samuel Conrad and wife Betty of Union Bridge and Ronald Conrad and wife Bettie, of VA. He was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Klaput; siblings, Martha, Jasper, Mildred, Floyd, Naomi and Rose and his ex-wife, Carol Conrad. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 20 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 827 Leisters Church Rd., with Pastors Kristin Dubsky and David Schafer, officiating. Interment will follow in Leisters Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor, 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, November 19 and on Monday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
