H. McKinley "Mac" Coffman, age 83, from New Windsor, MD, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2016 at Inspirations Memory Care of Westminster, MD. He was born in Fruitland, Idaho to the late Rev. McKinley Coffman and Elizabeth Fahrney Coffman. Mac graduated from Franklin HS in Reisterstown, MD and Manchester University (College), Manchester, IN in 1959 with a BA in Business Administration. He spent his career in a variety of humanitarian efforts to serve those in need. He first served in Germany in Brethren Volunteer Service (BVS) before moving to New Windsor and working at the Brethren Service Center and becoming Director, for nearly 15 years. While working in Arkansas, Washington, DC and New York City, Mac was a leader in efforts of disaster relief, refugee resettlement as well as other world health efforts in Europe, South America, Asia and Africa. Mac also served on the Board of Directors of New Windsor State Bank for 36 years. When not traveling, he appreciated being home and enjoyed raising Angus cattle, horseback riding, and family gatherings. He is survived by his wife Shirley Schrier Coffman; his five children: Amy Coffman Clark (Kevin); Lavonne Coffman Rolincik (Mark); Kurt McKinley Coffman; Rhonda Coffman Ruidas (Glean); Michael Andrew Coffman and by their mother, Janet Eller Coffman; his grandchildren: Naomi, Carley, Jordan, Luke, Courtney, Sean, and Josh; his sisters, Kathryn (Kitty) Bowman and Margaret Lindower. He is predeceased by sisters, Jane Coffman Pellam, and Barbara Coffman. The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to all those who helped Mac succeed and cared for him throughout his life. A memorial service is planned to be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Westminster Church of the Brethren. An announcement with details will be made closer to that date. In lieu of flowers, Mac's favorite charities were Church of the Brethren Disaster Ministries, 601 Main Street, P.O. Box 188, New Windsor, MD 21776, and , 1 World Avenue, Little Rock, AR 72202. Arrangements are by Hartzler Funeral Home, New Windsor.
