Catherine May Hahn Barnes, age 91 of Westminster, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday April 6, 2016 at her residence. She is now with her Lord and Savior. She was born in Uniontown, MD on May 24, 1924 the daughter of late Charles William and Frances G .Robertson Hahn Horton. She graduated from New Windsor High School the class of 1942. Catherine worked for the State of Maryland, Department of Labor Licensing and Registration where she devoted 30 years of faithful service to the citizens of Maryland until her retirement in 2006. Catherine was a lifelong member of the Westminster Church of the Nazarene where she was a former member of the Church Board, Sunday school teacher, Board of Stewarts, and in her earlier years she taught Vacation Bible School. Catherine enjoyed making many trips to New England to spend time with her son, daughter, and grandchildren. She was always proud of her children's accomplishments. Her favorite quote was "I take one day at a time." She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Robert H. Barnes who died February 1, 1983, her sister, Lillie Ann Linn, and three great-grandchildren. She is survived by a son Robert N., and his wife Deborah Barnes of Cape Elizabeth, Me, a daughter, Shirley K., and her husband Hans Melder of Weymouth, Mass, sister, Pauline Ebaugh of Hanover, PA., a brother, Charles Hahn of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, five grandchildren; Kathleen Melder, of Brockton, MA, Kara and her husband Brian Callahan, of Braintree, MA, Kevin and his wife Diana Melder, of Holbrook, MA, Matthew R. Barnes, 3rd Assistant Engineer, of Cape Elizabeth, ME, Megan and her husband Thomas Daly, First Assistant Engineer, of Sebastian, FL, and four great-grandchildren; Leigh Melder, Bridget Callahan, Nolan Marshall and Carson Melder. The family will receive friends on Tuesday April 12, 2016 from 4 to 7PM at Pritts Funeral Home, 412 Washington Road, Westminster, MD. A Celebration of Catherine's life will be held Wednesday April 13, 2016 at 11AM at the funeral home with Rev. Patrick Roxby and Rev. Richard Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Pipe Creek Cemetery, Union Bridge, MD. If so desired, contributions may be made in her memory to the Westminster Church of the Nazarene, 147 Sullivan Rd, Westminster, MD 21157.
