Harold Duane Thornburg, 84, of Mount Airy, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at home.

Born Nov. 13, 1927, in Rippey, Iowa, he was the son of the late Verner and Nin Tipton Thornburg. He was the husband of the late Margaret Cochran Thornburg.

He was a nuclear engineer for The Nuclear Regulatory Commission. He was a veteran of the Army.

He enjoyed fishing, was interested in Civil War history, and was involved in the Boy Scouts.

Surviving is a grandson, Matthew Thornburg, of Mount Airy.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Leslie Ann Thornburg.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Mount Airy.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
