Harold F. Wolfing, 96, of Westminster, died Sunday, March 23, 2014, at Carroll Lutheran Village in Westminster.

Born May 23, 1917, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Otto and Marie Wolfing, who emigrated from Germany in 1910. He was the husband of Mabel Wolfing, his wife of 63 years who died in 2012.

He retired from Westinghouse Corporation in 1982. His work took him to numerous locations throughout the world, which included four years in Iran and two years in Morocco. During World War II, he was assigned to the Office of Scientific Research and Development, where he worked on the Manhattan Project and other initiatives.

He enjoyed playing golf and tennis and could often be found with a fishing rod in hand.

He lived at Carroll Lutheran Village for the past year after returning to Maryland from Hudson, Fla., where he had lived for 25 years.

Surviving are children Harold Wolfing Jr. and wife Jenny, Robert Wolfing and wife Janet, and Lynda Myers; son-in-law Kenneth Bassmann and daughter-in-law Maria Wolfing; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Vivian Bassmann; and a son, Timothy Wolfing.

Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, at Lake View Memorial Park, 2724 Liberty Road, Sykesville.
