Harold "Pete" Petry, 85, of New Windsor, died Friday, August 22, 2014 at Carroll Hospice Dove House, following an extended illness. Born March 25, 1929 in New Windsor, he was the son of the late George F. Sr. and Marie Haines Petry. He was the husband of Catherine Elizabeth "Katie" Burns Petry, who predeceased him in 2012. Mr. Petry was a 1947 graduate of New Windsor High School. He joined his father in the wholesale produce business, later also working with his son in Carroll, Frederick and Baltimore counties, retiring in 2010. He was a well-known baseball player and a charter member of the New Windsor Athletic Association, which was organized in 1950. He was the first baseman for 10 years with the New Windsor AC's, then returned in 1962, playing for one final year. He was an avid golfer for many years and was a member of the Wakefield Valley Golf Club. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge and Elks Lodge, both of Westminster. Surviving are a son, Tony Dwayne Petry of New Windsor; special nephew and niece, Bo and Donna Darr; and several other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Darr; and brother, George "Bud" Petry. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 25 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. Deacon Charles Barnhart, pastor of Keysville Lutheran Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Winters Cemetery, New Windsor. Memorial contributions may be made to New Windsor Volunteer Fire Company, P.O.
