Harold W. "Gus" Horman Sr.

Harold William "Gus" Horman Sr., 85, of Union Bridge, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at Lorien at Taneytown, after an extended illness.

Born July 30, 1928, in Frederick, he was the son of the late Walter W.H. and Grace Winpigler Horman. He was the husband of Margaret Nusz Horman, who died in 2012.

He had worked on the family farm and then as a truck driver in earlier years. He retired in 2008 from the Peace and Plenty Farm, near Union Bridge, after farming with the Schwartzbeck family for more than 40 years.

He enjoyed gardening, yardwork, old farm equipment and spending time with his family.

Surviving are a daughter, Teresa A. Horman, of Hagerstown; sons Michael S. Horman and wife Sue, of Woodsboro, and Steven P. Horman and wife Annette, of Taneytown; grandchildren Cory, Victoria and Chris, Michael Jude, Charlotte LaRue and Steve W. Horman, and Mark W. Smith and wife Kathy; great-grandchildren Landon, Tenley, Cody, Chloe, Victoria, Gabrielle, Evan, Garrett and Gabrielle Kline, and Bailey and Hunter Smith; brothers Eddie, Larry and Richard Horman; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Horman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Harold William "Bill" Horman Jr.; sisters, Nancy Simpson, June Walters and Patsy Barnes; and a brother, Robert L. Horman.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Richard L. Michael, pastor of St. James Lutheran Church in Union Bridge, officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick.
