Harry L. Smith, 71, of Westminster, died Sunday, April 28, 2013, at home.

Born July 30, 1941, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late George H. and Ida Hafner Smith. He was the husband of Sharon A. Miller Smith, his wife of 50 years.

He was employed with A&P Bakery in Baltimore for more than 30 years. He was a member of Carroll Post 31 American Legion. He served in the National Guard from 1959 until 1963. He enjoyed traveling, deer hunting and leather work, making belts, wallets, purses and picture frames.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are son Harry L. Smith Jr. and wife Shelly, of Westminster; daughter Pamela J. Simms and husband John, of Kirby, W.Va.; Terry Wellen, of Baltimore, whom he raised as his daughter; brother Frank Smith and wife Melissa, of Baltimore; grandchildren June Loy, John and James Simms, Jesse, Leah and Randy Smith, and Emily and Abby Wellen; and great-grandchildren Kailey Loy and Leigh Simms.

He was predeceased by a son, Randy H. Smith; and siblings George Smith and Elaine Tarun.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Art Monroe Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Grace United Church of Christ Cemetery in Taneytown.
