Harry William "Bill" Hobbs, age 78, of Eldersburg, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2015, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House. Born December 26, 1936, in Marriottsville, MD he was the son of the late Howard Albert Hobbs and Ella Adele Parlett Hobbs. He was the husband of Shelby J. Bittner Hobbs, his wife of 53 years. Bill had been a carpenter for most of his life. He was a graduate of Sykesville High School, Class of 1955. He then served in the U.S. Army. Bill enjoyed genealogy, Carroll County history and was an avid Ravens and Orioles fan. He was a member of Brandenburg United Methodist Church and the Carroll County Genealogical and Historical Society. Most importantly, Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Surviving in addition to his wife are daughter, Ruth A. Semendinger of Chantilly, VA; sons and daughters-in-law, Harry W. "Bill". Jr. and Danielle Hobbs of Lewiston, ID and Howard Alan and Michelle Hobbs of Poolesville, MD; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy R. and James Pitcher of Westminster and grandchildren; Sarah R. and Joseph D. Semendinger, Harry W. "Billy", III and Shelby M. Hobbs and Brianna M. and Kelsey M. Hobbs. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings, Esta Mae Cearfoss, Howard Franklin Hobbs, Kathleen Paynter and Donald E. Hobbs. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville where a funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10 AM. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brandenburg UMC, PO Box 1233, Sykesville, MD 21784 or to Carroll Hospice, Dove House, 292 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157 or to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
