Grover Lee Hays, 94, of Churchville MD, died January 25, 2018. Born in Hamilton MD, he was the son of John and Caroline Johnston Hays; devoted husband of the late Margaret Whitmore Hays; beloved father of Bonnie Towner and companion Randy Harris, Cindy Saddler and husband Tom, and the late Dan Hays; cherished grandfather of Paul and Kerry Towner, Sean and Jill Towner, Laura and Fred Edwards, Tim Otten, Kevin Otten, and Christina Butler; loving great-grandfather of Jacob and Grace Towner, Frederick and Annabelle Edwards, and Marley Butler. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and predeceased by twelve siblings. A U.S. Navy World War II veteran, he served from 1943 to 1946 and then re-enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserve, serving until 1950. He was a member of American Legion Post 31 of Westminster MD. Centering his life around family, he especially enjoyed camping, annual family reunions and, having possessed a witty sense of humor, was considered quite a "ham." He was a welder/fabricator, and after retiring, co-founded Metal Benders Inc. with son- in- law Tom Saddler. Family will receive friends on Sunday, January 28, from 3-5 and 7-9 PM at Evans Funeral Chapel, 8800 Harford Road, Parkville MD, where a funeral service will be held at 12 Noon, Monday January 29. Interment at Moreland Memorial Park.
