Hazel Lee Blackburn Loper, 79, of Sylvania, Ga., formerly of Sykesville, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, Ga.

Born March 2, 1934, in Screven County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late David Hamilton and Frankie French Blackburn. She was the wife of Dr. Kenneth Clark Loper, her husband of 59 years.

She was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught for 15 years in different schools in Carroll County. She also taught piano for many years; in addition, she played the organ and piano in various churches for more than 60 years. She was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Kevin Bennett, of Westminster; sons and daughters-in-law Dr. K. Alan and Laurie Loper, of Pickerington, Ohio, John B. and Lori Loper, of Lenoir City, Tenn., Dr. Daniel C. and Teri Loper, of Monroe, Ga., and David B. and Susan Loper, of Sykesville; a sister, Mary W. "Dolly" O'Quinn, of Midway, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Lake View Memorial Park in Sykesville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the National Parkinsons Foundation, Gift Processing Center, P.O. Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
