Rev. Dr. Hazel Mae Garland, 88, of Westminster, died May 5, 2015 at Future Care Cherrywood in Reisterstown. Born January 2, 1927 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Mary Alice Krider Preston. She was the wife of the late Clarence Ray Garland who died April 26, 2009. Hazel had been a nurse at Springfield Hospital and at Carroll Hospital Center. Prior to that she had been a clerk in the family business, Acme Paving. She was a minister, preaching the Gospel for 66 years in Ministry in the Park, helping the poor and the homeless. She was a member of The Upper Room Ministry at Westminster Church of the Nazarene. Surviving is son and daughter-in-law David L. and Brenda Garland of Carlisle, PA; son Clarence R. Garland, Jr. of Westminster; caretakers Richard and Ricky Williams of Westminster; 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by daughter-in-law Billie Jo Garland and she was the last of her immediate family. The family will receive friends on Monday from 9 am until start of services at 10:30 am at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Rd., Westminster. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. Eddie Robinson. Interment will follow in Sandy Mount Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Pritts Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.
