Helen Coleman, 81, of Sykesville, formerly of Glen Burnie, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Carroll Hospital Center.

Born June 11, 1931, in Scranton, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Roman and Antoinette Garan. She was the wife of Michael Joseph Coleman Jr., her husband of 47 years, who died in 1996.

She was a homemaker and had also worked as a packager for Rock Tenn Company.

She enjoyed helping others who were unable to do for themselves. She was the "go to" person for help or for running errands at Park View Senior Citizen Apartments in Glen Burnie. She enjoyed bingo, shopping, making crafts, cooking, watching her soap "Days for Our Lives" and her cat Chi-Chi.

She was known to make people feel welcome and at home.

Surviving are sons Michael Joseph Coleman III, Daniel Raymond Coleman Sr., and Ronald Mitchell Coleman; a daughter, Sharlene Michele Spahr; brothers Stanley and Edward Garan; grandchildren James Minter Jr., Jason Minter, John Minter, Anna Jones, Teresa Garber, Christina Tano, Roni Coleman, Daniel Coleman Jr., Steven Coleman, Darryl Coleman, Shawn Coleman, Amy Coleman, Alison Coleman and Steven Beard Sr.; and great-grandchildren Brianna Minter, James Minter III, Johannah Minter, Ariana Minter, Addilyn Minter, Darryl Coleman Jr., Donavan Coleman, Kenneth Coleman, Angelica Coleman, Kaitlin Coleman, Gabriella Coleman, Nicholas Coleman, Benjamin Jones, Tristina Jones, Brian Garber, Mercedes Beard, Celeste Beard, Trinity Beard, and Steven Beard Jr.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Saundra Leah Wright; and a brother, Walter Garan.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bill Pumphrey officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park.
