Helen Krahling Thompson, age 86, of Ellicott City, died Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Hospice of the Chesapeake, Pasadena, following a lengthy illness. Born March 22, 1930 in Brooklyn, MD, she was the daughter of the late William and Lillian Lowman Krahling. She was the wife of John Thomas Thompson Sr., who predeceased her in 1987. Mrs. Thompson was a 1947 graduate of Southern High School, Baltimore and was formerly employed as a secretary at Johns Hopkins University. She loved playing bridge and was a member of the Howard County Bridge Group. She also enjoyed interior decorating in her own home, and sailing with her husband on the Chesapeake Bay. Surviving are daughters, Laurie S. O'Neil of Columbia, Cindy L. Guest and husband Greg of Annapolis; son, John Thomas Thompson Jr. and wife Beth of Halethorpe; grandson, Brian O'Neil; and brother, Donald Krahling of Pasadena. The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge on Monday, July 11 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Pipe Creek Cemetery, Union Bridge. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, 4760 Mountain Rd., Pasadena, MD 21122.
