Helen M. "Auntie" Chorpenning, age 92, of New Windsor, died Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Lorien of Taneytown. Born April 10, 1924 on Hawks Hill, New Windsor, she was the daughter of the late Horace and Louise Haines Greenwood. She was the wife of Roy "John" Allen Chorpenning, who predeceased her in 1996. Mrs. Chorpenning was a 1942 graduate of Westminster High School, was owner/operator of Helen's Donut Shop, Westminster, and retired in 1986 from Westminster Cab Company after 31 years. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, Dennings and the Four County Squares dancing group. She volunteered at Carroll Lutheran Village for 21 years and Westminster Nursing Homes for 8 years providing manicures, Carroll Hospital Center, Carroll County Farm Museum, Shriver Homestead at Union Mills, Literacy Council and the Life Enrichment Program, and in 1996 received the State Volunteer of the Year award. Auntie enjoyed puzzles, coloring and appreciating the beauty of nature from her porch. Helen's family would like to thank the staff at Lorien for their excellent care and compassion. She resided at Lorien this past year and made many friends with staff, volunteers and residents. Surviving are her caregivers and nieces, Vickie Shockley and husband, Dan of Union Bridge and Dolly Long and husband, Dan of Westminster; "her little angel", Heather Shockley; 12 additional nieces and nephews; and sister, Naomi Fritz of Florida. She was a God-Mother to eight children. She was predeceased by a sister, Twila Jones; and brothers, Horace Kenneth Greenwood, Harold Lewis Greenwood and Carl Ulysses Greenwood. A memorial service will be held at St. James United Methodist Church, 3000 Marston Rd., Westminster on Saturday, July 16 at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Mary Buzby and Rev. Ken Dunnington, her pastors, will officiate. Inurnment will be in Greenwood Church Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
