After graduation she married James A. Franklin. Following her divorce she became employed as a seamstress for Frederick Tailoring Co. for 25 years. She advanced to a managerial position there. They closed and she retired in 1973. For the next five years she worked at Goulds in Westminster.

In 1991 she was inducted into AARP's Maryland Senior Citizens Hall of Fame for her volunteerism. In 1997 she was named Maryland's Most Beautiful Person for Carroll County, again for her volunteer work. She was chosen from 25 nominees.

As a young child she attended Marvin Chapel Church in Plane 4 Frederick County, where she was baptized. In 1931, her family moved to Franklinville and she became a member of Taylorsville United Methodist Church. She attended Sunday school and church regularly, studied the Bible on a daily basis and took part in many of the church's programs. She was the organist of the church for many years.
