Helen V. Horner, 74, of Sykesville, died Sunday, June 3, 2012, at home.
Born Feb. 7, 1938, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Patrick J. and Mildred Virginia Chenworth Cavanaugh. She was the wife of Joseph T. Horner, her husband of 54 years.
She had attended Catholic schools in Baltimore, including grade school and middle schools at St. Catherine's, St. Clements and graduated from Catholic High School. She worked as a supervisor for the former Bell Atlantic Telephone Company and retired after 35 years of service.
After retiring she volunteered for 20 years at St. Joseph Catholic Community in the parish office. She was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Community in Eldersburg, where she had served on the parish council, taught Sunday school, chaired the liturgy committee, served as a Eucharistic minister and lector and years ago as a member of the Sodality.
She enjoyed reading, singing, listening to Irish music, and camping with her many friends.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a daughter, Ashley E. Erb, of Hanover, Pa.; sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Anton "Tony" Kriss, of Sykesville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law John and Mary Kyran Horner, of Carney; and grandchildren Brenna E. Horner, Ryan Joseph Erb and Jamie Patrick Erb.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville.
A funeral liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Community, 915 Liberty Road, Eldersburg. Interment will follow in Lake View Memorial Park in Sykesville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
