Henry N. Wheeler, Sr., 95, of Southbury CT, passed away on March 10, 2016. Henry was born September 27, 1920 in Derby, CT, son of Henry Steele and Masie Wheeler. He is survived by his first and last love of 72 years, his wife, Irene Purcella Wheeler and his three children, Barbara Wheeler of Southbury CT, Henry Wheeler Jr. and his wife Denise of Westminster, Maryland, and David Wheeler and his wife Debbie of Merritt Island, FL. In addition to his wife and children he is also survived by his brother Gordon Wheeler of Ansonia, CT and his three grandchildren, Erica Wheeler, Alison Berrios and Andrea Wheeler, one great grandson, Caleb Berrios, his cousin, Frankie, and the Purcella Family. Henry was active in Ansonia politics serving as Alderman and Treasurer for 8 years. He was also very active in many other local civic organizations. Henry retired from a career in banking in 1983 and moved to Westminster, Maryland before moving back to Southbury, CT in 2010. Henry was an avid fly fisherman who also tied his own flies. He enjoyed golfing, and some of his fondest times were spent bowling with his friends in Maryland. He was a fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, New York Yankees, New York Giants and the UConn Women's Basketball Team. He was a member of the stamp and coin club at Heritage Village. A memorial service to be held at St. John's Catholic Church in Westminster, Maryland on Friday, March 18, 2016. Donations can be made in his name to the Maryland Special Olympics or to St. Vincent DePaul through St. John's Catholic Church. Arrangements handled by Green Funeral Home in Danbury, CT
