Herbert Lee Haifley Jr., 88, of Westminster, died Friday, July 5, 2013, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House in Westminster.

Born Oct. 25, 1924, in Carroll County, he was the son of the late Herbert Sr. and Beulah Study Haifley. He was the husband of Erma Unger Haifley, his wife of 69 years.

He was a carpenter by trade and worked with a variety of home builders over the years. He was a veteran of the Army, having served during World War II.

He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ in Taneytown. He enjoyed singing in the church choir and sang in a variety of churches throughout the past 60 years. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family and attending family get-togethers.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters Linda Gronaw and husband Jim, and Nancy Sell and husband Paul, all of Westminster; brothers John Haifley, of Littlestown, Pa., and Robert Haifley and wife Mary Ellen, of Finksburg; grandchildren David Sell, of Sparks, Richard Sell and wife Angel, of Littlestown, and Matthew Gronaw and wife Julia, of Hanover, Pa.; great-grandchildren Courtney, Elena, Brennan and Abby; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers Roy and Milton Haifley.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown; and from 10 a.m. until the time of service, 11 a.m. Monday at Grace United Church of Christ, 49 W. Baltimore St., Taneytown, with the Rev. Steven Ostendorf-Snell officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Silver Run.
