Hermann Schott, 82, of Taneytown, Maryland, died on Friday, December 29, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster. Born on June 20, 1935 in Germany, he was the son of the late Johann and Emma (Dier) Schott. He was the loving husband to Lois Eileen (Priest) Schott for 56 years. Hermann was retired from a career spent as a self-made businessman who owned and helped operate Schott Brothers Farm, H. Schott Upholstery, Freeland Company and Hanover Craftsman furniture manufacturing companies. Over the years his employees grew to love and respect him. He was always a fixer and problem solver even up to the end. He enjoyed spending time with his family; gardening; fixing and refurbishing computers; photography and history. A self-educated and self-made man, he was always in pursuit of knowledge in various areas. He was a member of Keysville Lutheran Church, where he was on the church council and taught Sunday school for many years. Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters, Martha Knight and husband Roger of Union Bridge, Joyce Schott-Kraft and husband Chip of Frederick, and Sandra Schott Stokes and husband Shane of Franklin, TN; grandchildren, Heather Buzby and husband Darren of Union Bridge, Nathan and Jared Stokes both of Franklin, TN; great-grandson, Ethen Buzby; brother, Gustav Schott and wife Dawn of East Berlin, PA; and sister, Lydia Schott of Taneytown. He was predeceased by a sister, Meta Wade; and by brothers, Bruno and Bernhard Schott. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Keysville Lutheran Church, 7301 Keysville Rd., Keymar with Deacon Charles E. Barnhart, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Keysville Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 2nd from 6-8 p.m. at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the , 3001 Gettysburg Rd., Camp Hill, PA 17011.
