Irene Taylor Pickett, 85, of Westminster, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Golden Crest Assisted Living. Irene was born on December 15, 1931 in Patapsco, Maryland and was the daughter of the late Francis Marion and Margaret (Blum) Taylor. She was the cherished wife of Philip Gerald Pickett, her loving husband of 68 ½ years. Irene graduated from Westminster High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society for her academic excellence. Irene was employed for 35 years in the Westminster High School cafeteria. She was a loving and dedicated mother to her children. Irene was an accomplished baker and won several state awards. She enjoyed gardening, canning, crafts, and traveling the world with her husband. Above all she loved her family. She had a strong faith in God and was a member of the Church of the Open Door. Surviving in addition to her husband are children and their spouses Steven Douglas and Priscilla Bair Pickett of New Windsor, Dennis Lynn and Beverly Pickett of Westminster, Gerald Eugene and Lauren Pickett of Finksburg, Joy Diane and Royce Ruby of Hampstead, Jay Allan and Becky Pickett of Westminster; daughter-in-law Dawan Pickett; sister Edith Clisso; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Irene was predeceased by her son Jack Bryan Pickett, and siblings Anna Jane Taylor, Norval Ray Taylor, and Melvin Leppo. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 17, 2017 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Rd., Westminster. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with a visitation one hour prior to the start of services, with Rev. Dr. Norris Belcher officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
