J. Robert "Bob" Johnson, 77, of Silver Run, passed away suddenly on Friday, June 5, 2015 at his home. Born March 15, 1938 in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of the late George Johnson and Helen nee Lyons. He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Sharon, son, J. Robert Johnson, II of Deerfield Beach, Florida, daughter, Tracy, and son-in-law, Barry Shearer, of Evergreen, Colorado. He was predeceased by sister, Eleanor Wooden, and brother, Roland Johnson. Bob was a 1956 graduate of Milford Mill High School and a 1960 graduate of Western Maryland College. He was a member of the ROTC while in college and continued his military career in the Army, serving two years of active duty in Korea and Texas. Bob was a member of the Maryland National Guard and attained the rank of full Colonel before retiring. While attending the University of Maryland Law School he was employed as a trust officer with Mercantile Bank. He graduated law school and became a member of the Maryland Bar on November 17, 1967. After Mercantile Bank, Bob worked for Johns Hopkins University in their endowment program. In 1968 Bob became Assistant State's Attorney with the Carroll County Office. From 1972-1990 Bob was the Chief Public Defender in Carroll County before retiring from that position. He maintained a private law practice until his passing. Bob was a longstanding and well respected member of the Bar Association of Carroll County as well as the Maryland State Bar Association. He was highly regarded for his legal abilities and was always helpful to attorneys who requested his assistance. Bob was an animal lover and over the years had many pets. The family will recieve friends on Sunday, June 14, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. Until the start of the memorial service at 1:30 p.m. at Pritts Funeral Home, 412 Washington Road, Westminster, Maryland 21157. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Humane Society of Carroll County, 2517 Littlestown Pike, Westminster, Maryland 21158.
