Jack J. Pappas, age 75, of Eldersburg, Md., died peacefully Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at the Carroll Hospital Center, Westminster, Md. He was surrounded by his family in his final moments. Born September 16, 1939 in Alma, Mich., Jack was the son of the late John K. Pappas and Neva Jay Flansburg Pappas. He met Sharon Lewitt while they were at Central Michigan University, and they married in 1963. Jack worked for the Social Security Administration for 25 years, writing and managing the implementation of policies, regulations, and statutes as a Branch Chief. He also earned his pilot's license, flying a Piper Arrow out of the Carroll County Regional Airport. In retirement, Jack wrote short stories and a novel, and regaled his children and grandchildren with stories of his youthful adventures and many odd jobs. He enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams, solving puzzles and being with his family. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Jeff Werner, and son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Stephanie Pappas, and grandchildren, Luke and wife Rebecca Wilson, Alexis Pappas and fiancé Matthew Bourne, and Katie and Will Werner, and great-grandchildren Peyton, Landon and Brighton Wilson. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Springfield Presbyterian Church, 7300 Spout Hill Road, Sykesville, MD 21784, marked for One Great Hour of Sharing. One Great Hour of Sharing supports the work of Presbytery Disaster Assistance, Presbyterian Hunger Program, and Self-Development of People (helping empower the poor and oppressed).
