Jack R. Veara, 88, of Sykesville, died Monday, April 7, 2014, at home.

Born March 12, 1926, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Ralph William Webster and Caroline Mildred Kaiss Veara. He was the husband of Mary Ann Hill Veara, his wife of 61 years.

He had worked for 10 years at C.D. Denison, where he did leatherwork for leg and arm braces. He then worked for Black & Decker for 33 years, as a tool designer.

He was a member of the National Plymouth Club and a charter member of the Mid-Atlantic Region Plymouth Club. He was a charter member of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church. He was the last of his immediate family.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters and son-in-law Ann Marie Veara, and Carol Sue Veara and Michael Wallace; son and daughter-in-law Jack Robert and Teresa Veara; and grandchildren Samantha Margaret and Sara Marie Veara, and David Michael Wallace.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg; and from 10 a.m. until the time of service, 11 a.m. Friday at Messiah Lutheran Church, 5600 Old Washington Road, Sykesville, with the Rev. Michael Dubsky officiating. Internment will follow in Parkwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department, 6680 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, MD 21784.
