James D. "Dan" Bennett, Sr., age 67 of Gardners, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Gettysburg Center. He was born Friday, January 27, 1950 in Tazewell, VA, the son of the late Harold D. and Evelyn M. (Lester) Bennett. Dan attended Westminster High School. He owned and operated L and B Auto Sales and Repair in Gardners and formerly of Bonneauville for at least 30 years. He was a life member of the VFW in Westminster. He raced his drag car at South Mountain Dragway. He was an avid NASCAR fan and his favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt, Sr. Dan would always greet you with a joke or a good story. He served in the US Army as a helicopter mechanic during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Lisa L. (Browning) Bennett. He is also survived by two daughters, Kristy M. Bennett of Hanover, Becky A. Bennett of Gettysburg, one son James D. Bennett, Jr and fiancé Carolyn Sterner of Gettysburg, two grandchildren, Taylor and Alyssa and two great-grandchildren, Kale and Hadley, two sisters, Martha A. and husband Owen Polhaus of Westminster, Rose M. and husband Rob Wymer of Gettysburg, two brothers Larry Bennett of New Oxford, David M. Bennett of Westminster and sister-in-law Wanda Bennett of Westminster and his beloved buddy, Maxx. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold H. and Jerry W. Bennett. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main St., Bendersville. A memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday, January 17 from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at Bendersville Community Fire Station, 144 Park St., Bendersville. Memorial services will begin at 7:30 PM with Rev. Rick Robinson officiating. Military honors provided by Adams County Allied Veterans will be conducted at the fire station. Memorial contributions may be made to , , East Central Division, PO Box 897, Hershey, PA 17033.
