James Chrest Seymour, 74, of Westminster, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at home.

Born July 23, 1938, in Fredericksburg, Va., he was the son of the late Vernon and Elizabeth Chrest Seymour. He was the husband of Margaret Chrest-Seymour, his wife of 11 years.

He moved to Maryland from Alabama following his mother's death. He retired from the Air Force after 23 years of active duty. He was an editor of the Montgomery Advertiser and later the Prattville Progress. He was a professor at Troy State University.

After moving to Westminster, he worked for Koons Toyota. He then worked as regional director for the Moose International for Maryland, Delaware, D.C. and New Jersey. Throughout his life, he had been a radio deejay and gave presentations at the planetarium in Alabama. He was a master gardener with flowers and vegetables and enjoyed photography, playing golf, making stained glass windows and flying gliders.

He was a member of Westminster Moose Lodge 1381, American Legion Post 31 and V.F.W. Post 467.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children Nancy Rhodes, of Montgomery, Ala., and James Seymour and wife Diana, of Miami, Fla.; step-children Kathleen O'Mara and husband Paul, Jennifer Holmes and husband Alan, all of Westminster, and Jeffrey Chrest and wife Kimberly, of Boring; grandchildren and step-grandchildren Jason and Christopher McCombs, James E. Rhodes, James A., Christian and Cameron Seymour, Heather, and Kaitlin O'Mara and Laurel and A.J. Holmes and Emerson Chrest; great-grandchildren Matthew, Isabella, Chloe, Charidee and Paul; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Ann and Tom Goleuke; and friends Steve and Anita Davis and Bill and Judy Simpson.

He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Seymour.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster, where a memorial service will be held by the Westminster Moose at 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Carroll Hospice Chaplain, the Rev. Dave Bare officiating. Interment will be private.
