James Edward "Eddie" Houck, 59, of Johnsville, died Thursday, June 20, 2013, after a two-year battle with lung cancer, which eventually consumed his whole body.

Born Aug. 21, 1953, he was the son of the late Bruce A. and Charlotte N. Ensor Houck. He was the husband of Darlene Houck for 26 years.

He and his wife had been together for a total of 33 years. He was a 1971 graduate of Thomas Johnson High School in Frederick.

He worked in construction most of his life, including at Dean Pennington Masonry, Devilbiss Construction, and most recently, with Builders First Source for 14 years as an assembler and sawyer.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening and working with wood. He remodeled the home where he and his wife reside, creating his own style of furniture and cabinets for their home.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters Jennifer Houck and Jacklynn Houck and son-in-law Jim Wingto; granddaughters Anna Mae Ruby and Emma Rae Ruby; a nephew, Dale Fox and family; aunts and uncles; friends John and Jo Cramer, Eddie and Ed Stansfield; and his family at Builders First Source.

He was predeceased by a sister, Doris Fox.

Per his wishes, his body was donated to the State Anatomy Board for medical education and research; and there will be no memorial services.
