James E. "Jim" Taylor, 85, of Westminster, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House.

Born Jan. 30, 1928, in Pound, Va., he was the son of the late Bertha Mullins Taylor and Willard Taylor. He was the husband of Jeanette Taylor, his wife of 43 years.

He served as a corporal in the Army from 1946 until 1949. Before retiring he worked as an auto diesel mechanic and cross country truck driver.

He was a member of the American Legion Carroll Post No. 31 and Liberty Church in Westminster. He enjoyed being a truck driver, playing music, helping people, giving and family get-togethers.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughter Teresa L. Mitchell and husband Gary, of Reisterstown; son Lonnie K. Groves and wife Peggy, of Hanover, Pa.; a granddaughter, Jeannie Mitchell; grandson James C. Mitchell and wife Gwendolyn; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two brothers; and three sisters.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg.
